Menton, France
It’s easy to become infatuated with Menton, France.  Once you visit this quaint seaside town - you will return again and again to recapture those feelings.  Menton sits in the southeastern corner of the Cote d A’zur – where you can tickle the turquoise sea or enjoy the snow capped mountains in the distance. Some call this place “the Pearl of the Alps”.  It’s a fairy-tale setting, a hidden treasure, that’s just far enough away from the playground of the rich and famous - to enjoy this Franco-Italian Riviera destination. Whether you call it the Côte d’Azur or the French Riviera, this is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and sophisticated regions in the world.
Menton is exceptional - snuggled between the sheltering mountains and the glistening sea. Boasting 316 days of sunshine, all the while producing conditions favorable for growing lemons, tangerines and oranges. The town’s trademark is the lemon - where the  La Fete du Citron takes place every February; where thousands of travelers, tourists and locals, enjoy a grand carnival for an entire week.
Old Town Menton
There’s nothing like sitting on the Promenade du Soleil watching the azure sea sparkling in the intense sunshine and sun splashing off the ochre and pink colored buildings, or watching a magnificent sunset.  But there is so much more to enjoy in this enchanting landscape with the confluence of French and Italian cultures.
Menton is the last major town before leaving the French Riviera, offering many new and historical sites to savor: the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel from 1619, the craftsmanship of the Grimaldi coat of arms, or being astonished at the baroque architecture in Old Town.  By the sea, experience the  Musée Jean Cocteau--housing the world’s largest collection of works by one of the most multifaceted artists of the 20th century.
During the Second World War, Menton was occupied by the German army and the SS, suffering serious damage to the city. Thankfully, being liberated by the American and Canadian forces in September 1944.   It took nearly 10 years to repair the damage from WWII; but Menton moved forward in its rebuilding efforts and commemorated the USA and the Canadian troops for their efforts to save this picturesque town.
This storybook town will leave you longing for more and the vista will linger in your memory.
*Menton can be reached by bus 110 from Nice Côte d’Azur airport
